MSTRI (the Microsystems Technology Research Initiative)

was established in the fall of 2000. Located on the University of Alberta campus within the Faculty of Engineering , the goal of MSTRI is to foster the development of a Canadian microsystems industry through the support of innovative research projects, where the anticipated outcomes demonstrate a potential for crystallizing commercial opportunities.

University of Alberta Micro and NanoFabrication Facility (NanoFab)

is an open access micro and nano fabrication facility for the university community. Open access means the facility is open to any university research group. The facility director is Ken Westra, Ph.D. and the facility operation is overseen by the NanoFab committee. The facility is located in the ECERF Building at the University of Alberta.

AMIF - the Advanced Microsystems Integration Facility at the University of Calgary

The Advanced Micro/nanosystems Integration Facility (AMIF) is an open-access Class 100 / Class 1000 clean room facility that supports the design, integration, and characterisation of advanced micro and nanosystems technologies and the development of new, cutting edge micro/nano processes. The facility is open to academic and industrial users across Canada and currently supports a number of research and SME activities.

AMIF was established in 2003 within the Schulich School of Engineering to support the growth of microsystems research and development within the University of Calgary. Located in the Calgary Centre for Innovative Technology (CCIT), AMIF offers complementary capabilities to those of CMC Microsystems, Nanofab and NINT that allow us to refine and integrate fabricated designs and systems. AMIF supports Alberta’s technology vision and offers one of the most advanced, University based, integration and post processing facilities in Canada.

NINT - National Institute for Nanotechnology

is a collaborative project of the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), the University of Alberta, and the Province of Alberta. This facility will be a world class centre for nanotechnology research that will attract a core of the world’s best minds in a field expected to revolutionize everything from computing and communications to medicine, energy and manufacturing.

Micralyne - MEMS Foundry

is one of the largest independent MEMS foundries in the world. As a MEMS industry innovator and leader, Micralyne has a reputation of offering unparalleled MEMS product development and commercial volume MEMS manufacturing. With core competencies in MEMS micromachining, thin film deposition, and MEMS assembly & test capabilities, Micralyne develops and manufactures MEMS technology for the communications, energy, life sciences, and transportation markets.

TEC Edmonton

is a not-for-profit agency that helps people transform technological inventions and innovations into business opportunities. It primarily serves the Alberta Capital Region, but two programs are Alberta-wide. TEC Edmonton helps inventors, entrepreneurs, companies and investors access expertise, facilities, management and financing to succeed in technology ventures. About 30 staff, including interns, provide assistance in three overlapping areas, represented by “TEC”: Technology, Entrepreneur & Company development.
